new york fashion week, day three, part one

Boy by Band of Outsiders
Boy by Band of Outsiders collections, designed by Scott Sternberg, always take an interesting twist on womenswear. Instead of introducing new fabrics for individual womens pieces, Sternberg decides to use fabric from menswear in his construction. Because Boy by Band of Outsiders is based specifically on menswear for women, approaching fabric in this way also allows for an understand of how the clothes will always fit. This year’s collection for Fall 09 was based on the idea of a French student. Instead of his typically ubertrendy pieces, Sternberg created looks that, I believe, will appeal to a much wider audience, whether that’s by age, demographic, or just personal style.

Diane von Furstenberg
Diane von Furstenberg creates some of the most loved clothing to date. Women, everywhere, loves what she designs and creates and her own personal style (even given that she wears many of her own pieces), is just impeccable. Catering to women of multiple ages that have confidence, self assurance and a desire for sexiness, von Furstenberg’s line is always catering well. This year, von Furstenberg simply ignored the whole recession deal that everyone keeps shouting about and did her own thing anyways; the thing she simple does best. And that’s always just a little bit more than necessary. There was embroidery, beadings details, beautiful fabrics, patterns, and the colour pattern even felt rich. Von Furstenberg is a woman of many dresses, and, this season was no exception. But, targeting the fall season, many were paired with slouchy comfy cardigans and warm overcoats, as well as leggings in leather and prints. And, finishing the show, in true Diane von Furstenberg style, she didn’t veer from her true glamour, and put out an array of gowns worthy of the most well known dive, Diana Ross, who’s song wasn’t only playing to the stomp of the models, but who was also sitting in the audience.

DKNY
DKNY is going to be one of those great commercial brands that everyone starts shopping at this season. Not just because they have great prices, but because they’re a well know, American sportswear designer label as well. Despite how great clothing may look or be made, we are always consumed by the label or the hands that made it, and the higher the prices, the more quality and care is put into it. However, we can breathe a sigh of relief with DKNY because not only is made great and of incredible quality, it’s also got a low(er) price than some other labels. This year, Donna Karen and company put together looks of timeless pieces, focusing heavily on outerwear, and, as long as you feel comfortable wearing black, grey, camel, poppy red or Kelly green, DKNY will have you outfitted for fall.

Erin Featherston
Erin Featherston’s collections are always a little mystical to me. Not that they look that way in colour palette, nor do they have that airy, fantasy look to them, but, to me, they are a step away from reality, which is why I love them so much. This season was no different. Her collection was inspired by The Nutcracker’s tin soldiers, with little tailored riding jackets and dozens of empire waists. They were looks you wanted to put on and just go to a party in. They were, seriously, that cute. Although I’m only showing you a few photos here from her collection, I highly suggest you check out the entire show.

Herve Leger by Max Azria
1998 marked the year that Max Azria bought Hervé Léger, creating the label Hervé Léger by Max Azria. Building the bandage dress as their strongpoint for the line, the key pieces isn’t going anywhere, and, this season, it was just about switch a couple things around, and vamping things up. The colours were more muted this season and things were a little more exotic and sexy. There was chiffon, snakeskin, built out 80’s shoulders and a piece that was crystal beaded.

Much love,
s.

Hi there how are you? I was looking through your blog and found it interesting and wanted to leave you a comment.

I have an invitation for you to come and visit my art blog here in San Diego Southern California. I started this blog in an attempt at finding a creative way to find new friends, and explore my artistic skills through bloging. I have since found many new friends from an international audience. I hope you will stop by and enjoy the various labels and music videos I design for my art blog.
I hope to see you soon :)
